Big E Cheese Competition

Keep Local Farms is excited to sponsor the Mallary Cheese Shoppe at the Big E this year!  This is the first year of the Mallary Cheese Shoppe, a tent where visitors may sample and sell winning cheeses from The Third Annual Big E Gold Medal Cheese Competition. A portion of the proceeds from the cheese shop will go to Keep Local Farms so please stop by, buy some delicious cheese, and support Keep Local Farms.

This year’s Big E takes place Sept. 17 – Oct. 3 on the 175-acre grounds of Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, Mass. The Mallary Complex is the hub of the Fair’s numerous livestock shows, contests and demonstrations, with Farm-A-Rama located in the center of the fairgrounds, featuring special exhibits and attractions, all designed to educate the public about the large role agriculture plays in daily life.  In addition to the farm and craft displays, parades, and dozens of food vendors, the Big E features a horse show and butter sculpture.  This event is not to be missed.

The Big E, also known as The Eastern States Exposition, is billed as “New England‘s Great State Fair“. The only cross-state agricultural fair in the United States, the fair serves as the de facto state fair for the six New England states: ConnecticutMaineMassachusettsNew HampshireRhode Island, and Vermont. It is the sixth largest agricultural fair in the country, and the largest in New England.

Please check in with us here next week to read about the competition winning cheese makers who will be featured in the Mallary Cheese Shoppe. Last year winning cheese makers included the Cellars at Jasper Hill, Cabot Creamery, State of Maine Cheese Company, Grafton Village Cheese Company, Smith’s County Cheese Inc., Pineland FArms, and Neighborly Farms of Vermont.

Look for KLF banners in the state buildings and get a KLF wristband (sold in the Massachusetts building) when you make a contribution to the program.
